Pre-Professional Training Program
Houston Met Dance’s Pre-Professional Training Program is designed for accomplished high school or college students, pre-professional and professional dancers, as well as advanced adults with a minimum of six years of consistent and focused training in ballet, jazz and/or contemporary dance. This program is for students who have a desire to train at an accelerated pace with focus on proper technique, strength, flexibility and body alignment. Additional attention is given to musicality, movement quality and anatomically correct work. Houston Met Dance’s Pre-Professional Training Program serves as an excellent preparation for dance programs at universities and a professional career in dance performance.
Houston Met Dance’s Pre-Professional students have achieved the highest levels of success, with many attending top level arts institutions like the Julliard School, Point Park University and University of Arizona, and ultimately attaining professional status as solo and company performing artists.
Men’s Ballet Training Program
Houston Met Dance’s Men’s Ballet classes, led by male teachers with professional experience, will offer more specialized training for young male ballet students and advanced adult students. Barre exercises will be adapted to get down on to the floor for work on preparations and jumps. Young male dancers have a range of flexibility and strength, so a mindful approach to each student is emphasized. Working through a full ballet class, Men’s classes will focus on strengthening body posture, turns and jumps.
Male Camaraderie – Male dancers are underrepresented in the dance community, and as such a class of all males offers a positive environment encouraging students to compare themselves to other dancers in a healthy way. Being around a group of young men all working toward the same goal gives students confidence and motivation. The discipline, concentration and focus learned in class often expands beyond the walls of the studio. When students practice together multiple times a week, there is not only technical improvement, but also behavioral benefits such as increased confidence and excitement in their dance education.
