Choreography: Robbie Moore Original Score: Nicholas Robert Thayer Premier 2018
MURMUR is a piece created for nine dancers set to an original score imagined by Nicholas Robert Thayer. The music takes shape in four sections, each echoing the four chambers of the human heart. The piece opens with stark intensity in which the performers explore inward and outward focal points that frequently reach into and far beyond the seated audience. The dancers erupt in quick gestures of the upper body; they vibrate from the ground upward. There is a sense of torment and full-bodied consumption throughout. The work builds with interdependent partnering sequences that flow and untangle. Finally, everything dissolves into a placid state where the turbulent energy is inevitably exhausted. One can uncover numerous interpretations for the word “heart” in this dynamic work.
