NMLY.dance is a convergence of their intersectional interests and individual studio practices. Intentionally they entered this collaborative venture with a desire to deepen their collaborative practice, calling on multiple voices to shape the direction of the creative act. Their goal is to entangle different artistic practices to reveal new ones and rediscover old ones. While at UH, she was a member of the UH Dance Ensemble for four years and had the opportunity to work with various choreographers like: Teresa Chapman, Karen Stokes, Sophia Torres, Becky Valls, Toni Valle, Jackie Nalett, Laurie Amare, Leslie Scates, Amy Ell, Kelly Knox, jhon r. stronks, and Jennifer Wood. During and after college, she danced for Suchu and continued to work with Houston area companies and choreographers like Lori Yuill, Amy Ell, The Living Room Project, and Pilot Dance Project. Her work includes ongoing research into the in-between spaces: the space between narrative and abstraction, choreography and improvisation, and between performance and rehearsal. Lori is drawn to site specific work because of the opportunity to learn from and about different places like the Flower Garden Banks off the shore of Galveston, or Finca Tres Robles a farm located in Houston's East End where she made “Green Zebras: Moringa Madness'' In addition to making dances for specific spaces, Lori has made several evening length works for the stage including “The Remembering Happens” created during a residency at Rice University. Her choreographic interests in collaboration, research and process infuse her teaching practice as well. She works with a variety of organizations to bring dance to curious movers and thinkers. At Houston Met Dance, Lori serves as the Director of Curriculum helping to cultivate a conversation about how dance is shared across age groups and across genres. Additionally, with Hope Stone she has the great pleasure to guide the residents at Village of River Oaks Memory Care Center through bimonthly dance classes, and through Performing Arts Houston Lori facilitates a creative writing and dance program for middle school students. She has worked as a facilitator for Artist Inc., a program that helps artists develop their business practices, and for Emc Arts, a program that helps nonprofits develop their adaptive capacities. Adambrations - Adam Castañeda Adam Castan͂eda is a dancer, choreographer, and arts administrator based in Houston, Texas. He is a four-time recipient of the Houston Arts Alliance’s Support for Artists and Creative Individuals Grant for works including Lazarus in the Promised Land (2021), Migration (2023), and The Women of Northside (2024). His choreography credits for theater include Afsaneh Aayani's Innominate (Catastrophic Theatre), Cleansed (Catastrophic Theatre), Last Stop on Market Street (Main Street Theater), and Rumplestiltskin (University of Houston). Adam was a company member for five seasons with Jennifer Wood’s Suchu Dance, and currently performs with the Michele Brangwen Dance Ensemble. Adam is a grateful recipient of a 2020 Support for Artists and Creative Individuals Grant from the Houston Arts Alliance to produce Lazarus in the Promised Land, a celebration of the Houston Mexican American community. Most recently, he was awarded a Let Creativity Happen Digital! Grant for “The Intimacy of Longitudes and Latitudes” and is currently one of six mentees in Dance/USA’s Institute for Leadership Training. In addition to movement, Persi enjoys costume creation and often incorporates their original designs into their performance works. After receiving their BFA in contemporary dance from Indiana University, with a portion of their studies being spent internationally at the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance, Persi moved to Kansas City where they performed as a company member in both City in Motion Dance Theater and Tristian Griffin Dance Company. Often their dancing is a mending practice in pursuit of expansion and evolution, while their singing carries through a mourning call in search of recognition, and reconciliation. Through their voice and movement emerges a genderqueer expression that remembers lost existences and imagines new trajectories toward the home and rest they are chasing after. As a dancemaker stronks has been accused of presenting audiences with seemingly unruly work that reveals itself according to its own logic. Seeing their work as collage stronks, choreographic expressions combine the fundamental elements of composition, with a confluence of movement styles and techniques drawn from a personal movement foundation in Modern, Post-Modern, Jazz, Ballet and Africanist dance training. From this place, stronks dives into the deep end playing with alternative structures for dance making that are more intuitive and often unpredictable. The result is the creation of a broad field for the dancing, where the context is clear; the eye has choices, and the viewer gets to decide. Morelia, MX), is a bi-national dance artist researching embodied ecology, improvisation, and multicultural story-telling. A 2024-25 Dance Source Houston AIR, her latest work La Maleza premiered at Barnstorm Dance Fest in April. Performance credits include: Menil Drawing Institute, Tiresias’s Underworld: Uncanny Valley at the House of Yes (NYC), Texas Dance Improvisation Festival, Sidewalk Detroit, Triskelion Arts, AUNTS NYC, Movement Research at the Judson Church, Primate Escénico, Performática, Querétaro Experimental (Mexico), ResExtensa (Italy), and the Ministry of Culture Costa Rica. Past residencies include: Keshet Makerspace, Atlantic Center for the Arts, Florida Dance Festival, Guapamácataro Arts & Ecology, and the Diverse Intelligences Summer Institute. She is a 2018 NALAC Leadership Fellow and 2023 recipient of National Endowment for Culture and the Arts Mexico “Young Creators” award for her project Danzas Migratorias: Choreography for the Monarch Butterfly. She was full-time Professor of Dance at University of the Americas in Puebla, Mexico 2019-2023. Her work includes ongoing research into the in-between spaces: the space between narrative and abstraction, choreography and improvisation, and between performance and rehearsal. Lori is drawn to site specific work because of the opportunity to learn from and about different places like the Flower Garden Banks off the shore of Galveston, or Finca Tres Robles a farm located in Houston's East End where she made “Green Zebras: Moringa Madness'' In addition to making dances for specific spaces, Lori has made several evening length works for the stage including “The Remembering Happens” created during a residency at Rice University. Her choreographic interests in collaboration, research and process infuse her teaching practice as well. She works with a variety of organizations to bring dance to curious movers and thinkers. At Houston Met Dance, Lori serves as the Director of Curriculum helping to cultivate a conversation about how dance is shared across age groups and across genres. Additionally, with Hope Stone she has the great pleasure to guide the residents at Village of River Oaks Memory Care Center through bimonthly dance classes, and through Performing Arts Houston Lori facilitates a creative writing and dance program for middle school students. She has worked as a facilitator for Artist Inc., a program that helps artists develop their business practices, and for Emc Arts, a program that helps nonprofits develop their adaptive capacities.
