EARLY CHILDHOOD & ELEMENTARY SCHOOL RESIDENCY PROGRAMS

DANCE DISCOVERY - PreK - 1st Grade

3 Sessions Each - 30 minutes in length

Classes introduce children to the joy and excitement of dance, music and movement. With a focus on creative, social, emotional and physical wellness, students will use movement to problem solve, work with others, express feelings, and interact with their environment. Students will be exposed to dance vocabulary of multiple genres and will grow in their ability to link movement together, challenging their memory in addition to creativity, strength and flexibility.  Dance Discovery encourages children to explore movement using their imagination through dance and music. Collaboration with the teachers and the curriculum focus for the week add an additional learning tool teachers can bring into their classrooms to explain, teach and illustrate ideas.

EXPRESSION IN MOVEMENT- Grades 2 - 5

3 Sessions each - 50 Minutes Each

Classes focus on body and spatial awareness, rhythm, and personal expression.  Students use visual art as inspiration for dance, encouraging them to interpret meaning in art and express that meaning through movement. This class taps into kinesthetic and visual learning to help foster greater connection to information shared during the school day.  Time is given for a mixture of structured directions for moving as well as time for individual explorations in order to practice critical thinking in a non-competitive environment. This class also delves into how music and art affect one's emotions, how students react to that effect and how they can change that effect.  These tools help students learn to deal in the social setting of schools, with home situations and the community at large.

TAP INTO BLACK HISTORY - Grades 1 - 5

3 sessions each - 50 minutes

Offered Jan and Feb

Focusing on the development and impact of Black History in music and dance.  Opening the minds of the students to the progress that has taken place through the decades by Black Artists. An element of this program is a collaboration during a session with guest Artists from our Fine Arts Community.

TEKS are explored in all Outreach Programs based on the grade levels
